Interior Painting in Ellesmere Port

Walls, ceilings, doors and woodwork, painted neatly by a family run team with 15 years in the trade. We're fully insured and fully qualified, and we give free quotes with a fixed price for most jobs.

A fresh coat, done properly

Interior painting is often the quickest way to make a room feel new again. Paint picks up scuffs, fades in sunlight and starts to look tired after a few years, especially in hallways, kitchens and children's rooms. Fresh colour can lift a whole house, and the right finish makes walls and woodwork easier to keep clean.

People usually call us when they've just moved in, when they're getting ready to sell, after building work or plastering, or when they've simply had enough of looking at the same walls. For landlords it's often between tenants. For businesses it's usually a refresh that has to happen without getting in the way.

What we paint inside

  • Walls and ceilings
  • Doors and door frames
  • Skirting boards and architraves
  • Stairs, spindles and banisters
  • Window frames and sills
  • New plaster

We take on single rooms, whole houses and larger properties. Bigger jobs are very welcome, and we're always happy to become your regular decorator.

How interior painting is done

Preparation comes first

Good decorators will tell you the finish depends on the preparation. Furniture is moved or covered and floors are protected. Cracks and holes are filled and sanded, and glossy woodwork is keyed so new paint grips properly. Stains may need a stain blocking primer so they don't bleed through.

Ceilings, then walls, then woodwork

Most decorators work from the top down. Ceilings come first, then walls, usually with two coats for even colour. Woodwork is normally done last in satinwood or gloss, which stands up to knocks better than wall paint.

New plaster needs a mist coat

Fresh plaster is very absorbent. It needs to dry out fully, then it gets a thinned first coat, called a mist coat, to seal it before the top coats go on. Skipping this is a common cause of peeling paint.

Choosing a finish

Matt hides small marks on walls and looks soft. Hard-wearing or washable emulsions suit busy hallways and family rooms. Kitchens and bathrooms do best with paint made to cope with moisture. If you're not sure, ask us when we come to quote.

Working around you

We can paint in the evenings and at weekends, so work fits around your family, your tenants or your business opening hours.

Questions

Interior Painting questions

Can't see your question here? Drop us a line and we'll get back to you.

Ask us a question
How long does it take to paint a room?

It depends on the size of the room, its condition and how much woodwork there is. An average room with a fresh colour on the walls and ceiling and the woodwork done often takes a couple of days, because preparation and drying time between coats matter. We'll give you a clear idea when we quote.

Do I need to move my furniture before you start?

It helps if you can clear small items, ornaments and anything fragile. Larger furniture can usually be moved to the middle of the room and covered. Floors and anything left in the room are protected while we work.

How many coats of paint will my walls need?

Two coats is normal for an even finish, especially when you're changing colour. Going from dark to light, or painting new plaster, can need an extra coat or a primer first. We'll let you know what your walls need when we come to look.

Can you paint in the evenings or at weekends?

Yes. We can work evenings and weekends, which suits busy households, rented properties with tenants in, and businesses that can't close during the day.

Are your quotes free?

Yes, quotes are free and there's no obligation. Most jobs come with a fixed price. We usually come out to look at the rooms first, and for simpler jobs we can often quote over the phone.

Can you paint newly plastered walls?

Yes. New plaster needs to dry out fully first, then it's sealed with a thinned mist coat before the top coats go on. This stops the paint flaking or peeling later.
