Domestic Decorating in Ellesmere Port

We're a family run team who decorate homes, from one room that's looking tired to a full house refresh. Your quote is free, most jobs have a fixed price, and we can work evenings and weekends.

Decorating for your home

Domestic decorating covers the painting and wallpapering that keeps a home looking cared for. Some people call us because they've just moved in and want the place to feel like theirs. Others are getting a house ready to sell, tidying up after building work, or just tired of living with scuffed walls and yellowing gloss.

Homeowners and tenants both ask us for help. We take on hallways, stairs and landings, bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. If the job is bigger than you first thought and covers several rooms or the whole house, that's fine too. Bigger jobs are very welcome.

When people usually redecorate

  • After moving into a new home
  • Before putting a house on the market
  • Once plastering, rewiring or a new kitchen is finished
  • When a baby is on the way, or a child outgrows their room
  • When the hallway and stairs have taken years of knocks

How a decorating job is done

A good finish comes mostly from the preparation. It's the part you don't see once the job is done, and it's why a well decorated room keeps looking good for years.

Protecting your home

Furniture is moved or grouped and covered, floors are sheeted, and fittings like light switches are masked or loosened so paint doesn't end up where it shouldn't.

Preparing the surfaces

Cracks and holes are filled and sanded flat. Woodwork is cleaned and keyed so the new coat grips. Bare plaster or patched areas get a mist coat or primer, and stains are sealed so they don't bleed through.

Painting in the right order

Ceilings usually come first, then walls, then woodwork such as skirting, doors and frames. Most surfaces need two coats for an even colour. Cutting in neatly along edges is what gives you crisp lines between walls, ceilings and trim.

Wallpaper, if you want it

Domestic jobs often mix paint with a feature wall or a fully papered room. Walls are prepared so they're smooth and sound, then the paper is hung straight and the pattern matched. Find out more on our wallpapering page.

Clearing up

At the end, sheets come up, furniture goes back and the room is left ready to use.

Living at home while we work

Decorating doesn't have to take over your week. We can work evenings and weekends, so we can plan the job around work, school runs and family life.

Questions

Home decorating questions

Ask us a question
How long does it take to decorate a room?

It depends on the size of the room, how much preparation the walls and woodwork need, and whether there's wallpaper involved. An average bedroom or living room often takes a couple of days, allowing time for filling, sanding and two coats. We'll give you a clear idea when we quote.

Do I need to empty the room before you start?

It helps to clear small items, ornaments and anything fragile. Larger furniture can usually be moved into the middle of the room and covered with dust sheets, so you don't need to empty it completely.

Can you decorate in the evenings or at weekends?

Yes. We work evenings and weekends, which suits many families who'd rather not have decorators in during a busy working week.

How do your quotes work?

Quotes are free. For most jobs we come out first to see the rooms, so the price reflects the real work involved. Simpler jobs can often be quoted over the phone. Most jobs come with a fixed price, so there are no surprises.

How soon can I use a room after it's painted?

Most modern water based emulsions are touch dry within a few hours, so you can usually use the room once the job is finished and cleared. Paint takes longer to fully harden, so it's best to avoid scrubbing walls or leaning furniture against fresh woodwork for a week or two.

Do you decorate rented homes?

Yes. We decorate for homeowners and tenants, and we also work with landlords and letting agents to get properties ready between tenancies.
